Samsung’s Galaxy S8’s in-box headphones look great.
How nice? Well, for starters they’re from a recognizable brand. That pretty much put Apple’s EarPods to shame by default – though that’s a pretty low bar to pass.
The new phone was officially unveiled March 29 after lots of leaks, and delighted Samsung fans with its “infinity display”, internal specs and DeX desktop functionality.
Less hyped, but not to be overlooked, are the in-box earphones that come with the S8. For free.
“New high-performance earphones tuned by AKG by Harman, offering uncompromised audio for unbeatable sound quality, will come as an in-box accessory,” reads a Samsung press release. “These earphones will have a comfortable hybrid canal fit for better noise cancellations and will be made from anti-tangle metal-fabric materail”.

Let’s break this down to pieces, shall we?
Firstly, the AKG by Harman bit. Samsung acquired Harman in 2016 for close to $8 billion, so it makes sense to turn to the company for audio. Harman is known for making great noise cancellation headphones. So, expect quality. While we have to wait till 21 April to try the AKGs out.
In comparison, the EarPods that come with an iPhone 7 are, well, Apple EarPods. They stop while working, and of course fall out of practically everyone’s ears. The sound? Well it’s so amazing, I have no words to explain it. c k
Interestingly, Apple could take a note from Samsung here. The Cupertino giant acquired headphone maker Beats in 2014 and could simply package an iPhone-specific version of the popular headphones along with its devices. Well, you have Beats, freaking Beats. Come on Apple, you can do better. Still, if you want a pair of Beats you have to buy them separately.
If you want to buy those Samsung’s in-box headphones separately, you can but them for $99. Pretty sweet.
And yeah, the headphones fit nicely into the Galaxy S8’s headphone jack – no special connectors required.
